전남 여수경찰서는 12일 코로나19로  '경찰이 음주단속을 하지 않는다'는  잘못된 인식이 퍼져 음주운전으로 인한 교통사고가  발생함에 따라 연말까지 특별 음주단속을 실시하기로 했다.

이번 집중단속은 주․야간을 불문하고 교통경찰뿐만 아니라 가용경력을 최대한 투입해 20～30분 단위로  단속 장소를 변경하는 '스팟 이동식' 단속을 실시한다.

특히 시내 유흥가와 주요교차로를 중심으로 음주운전 단속을 실시하고 각 지역별로 지역경찰에서 수시로 음주단속을 실시하게 된다.

앞서 여수경찰은 지난 2개월간 음주단속을 실시한 결과 약 300건 이상을 단속(음주운전 사고 21건)하였음에도 불구하고 음주운전이 줄어들지 않고 있다고 전했다.

문병훈 여수경찰서장은 "음주운전은 범죄행위이고, 한잔이라도 술을 마시고 음주운전을 하면 안 된다"며 "연말까지 주·야간 상시단속을 실시하겠다"고 밝혔다.
