Concerns are growing as lawmakers Joo Cheol-hyeon and Kim Hoe-jae, who are former prosecutors, are in conflict with each other on each regional issue.

Because of this, it is known that city and provincial lawmakers in the Yeosu area are complaining of fatigue from noticing these lawmakers who actually hold the right to nominate.

According to politicians on the 17th, as the date of demarcation of constituencies for next year’s general elections approaches, there are observations that the possibility of a “hap-gu” in the Yeosu area is higher than ever.

According to the Public Official Election Act, the demarcation of constituencies for the 22nd general election must be completed one year before the election day, and as of the end of December last year, the population of Yeosu was 274,765, which has already collapsed the 280,000 mark, which was considered the Maginot line.

This is because at the time of the 21st general election in April 2020, it fell below the upper limit of 278,000 people and did not meet the conditions for a single constituency, putting it in a position to increase its population.

As a result, as of the end of August last year, Yeosugap, the constituency of Congressman Joo Cheol-hyeon, had a population of 128,737, far below the lower limit of 139,000, giving birth to various speculations.

In particular, as the population of Yeosu, the only city in Jeollanam-do to maintain two constituencies, continues to decline, it seems inevitable to adjust the constituency accordingly.

Regarding this, various scenarios such as hapgu or Suncheon/Yeosu Gap/Eul/Byeong are discussed, but weight is being placed on the possibility of a confrontation between Rep. Joo Cheol-hyun and Kim Hoe-jae in any form.

However, as it appears that the local public sentiment toward these lawmakers has cooled, attention is focused on whether the impact will continue to the general election next year, which is approaching 15 months from now.

In fact, as a result of an opinion poll on the support for Rep. Joo Chul-hyeon and Kim Hoe-jae for Yeosu-gap, which was conducted immediately after the local elections in June of last year, the overwhelming majority of respondents said they would not support it again.

In a poll conducted on 810 men and women aged 18 or older in Yeosu City, which was commissioned by Real Meter in relation to political issues by a local newspaper at the time, 49.9% of Yeosu National Assembly members responded that they were 'wrong' in their legislative activities, and those who said they were 'good' were 33% and 17.1% answered 'I don't know'.

By constituency, 33.7% of the respondents said they were “good” and 48.9% said they were “wrong.” In the Eul district, 32.3% of the responses were 'good' and 50.8% 'wrong', with negative evaluations far ahead in all districts. In addition, by age group, the negative evaluation of 'doing wrong' was the highest at 66.3% in the 40s, The positive evaluation of 'doing well' was the highest at '44.1'% among those in their 60s or older.

In particular, when asked whether or not to re-apply for incumbent members of the National Assembly, 54.9% of the respondents said 'I will not support', 'I will support' (33.7%). significantly outpaced the response.

As such, the biggest reason for the rapid cooling of public sentiment toward local lawmakers is that each pending issue shows a different beat each time, and the resulting conflict and antagonism have intensified, and the cause is being sought.

In fact, these members of the National Assembly clashed head-on during the New Year's meeting hosted by the Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as they differed sharply over the establishment of a university hospital, one of Yeosu's most long-awaited projects.

Rep. Joo said that based on the 2005 memorandum of understanding on the integration of Chonnam National University and Yeosu University, the establishment of a university hospital-level medical institution should be promoted, and the government urged the government to fulfill its responsibility for the establishment of Oriental Medicine University, Oriental Hospital, and specialized medical institutions in Yeosu, which were promised at the time of integration.

On the other hand, Rep. Kim said, "We need to establish a university hospital in Yeosu, a medical school in Suncheon, and a nursing college in Gwangyang," regarding the attraction of Jeonnam Medical College, and said that three cities in the eastern region should cooperate with medical schools and hospitals, leaving a spark. .

The war of nerves between these members of the National Assembly continued in the Yeosu City Hall new construction project.

Rep. Joo said that maintaining both the Hakdong City Hall and the Munsu Office was desirable in terms of administrative services for Yeosu citizens and balanced regional development.

On the other hand, Rep. Kim said that the promise at the time of the three-ryeo integration must be kept, and Yeosu, which has developed into a key axis of the new growth engine in the southern coastal area, showed a temperature difference by saying that the integrated government building is the future.

On the other hand, when the bill on the post-use of the Yeosu World Expo site passed the National Assembly in October of last year, the state legislator voted in favor, but Congressman Kim was reported to have failed to participate in the vote, so the difference in position was stark.

The detonator was the proposition by a state legislator of a partially revised bill for the 'Special Act on Management and Post-Use of Yeosu World Expo', in which the Yeosu World Expo Foundation and the Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority were the subject of post-use development of the fairgrounds.

However, Rep. Kim made it clear that he was opposed to the Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority taking the lead, saying that Yeosu City should manage the development of the fairgrounds.

A member of the Yeosung family emphasized that the politics of integration has disappeared as the conflicts and antagonisms among local lawmakers continue, and that the politics of integration should be restored through dialogue and compromise, not dividing the local people.
